MacKaru is the son of Mai Tai. They were brought to us in 2016 just after Mai Tai had given birth to a litter of pups. She had been someone’s pet, but they moved away leaving her and her new litter of pups locked in a garden with no food or water. Thankfully, a neighbor heard her and the pups crying and asked us to rescue them. Sadly, Mai Tai passed away in 2021, we think it was a cobra bite but are not 100% sure.

MacKaru’s siblings, Mia, Karu (aka Foxy), and Gaia still also live in the shelter.

MacKaru is a big gentle pooch. He’s got a cartoon-like face which is very expressive and he’s incredibly sweet with dogs and humans. He does get a little nervous when humans that he doesn’t yet know to enter his compound, he will bark a little and bounce away from the humans, running back again and then bouncing away again excitedly, until he’s built up a little more confidence to come forward gently for a little ear rub and when he knows you,  he likes to push himself up against you as close as he can and cuddle right in or loves it when you give him a belly rub!

MacKaru has a soft, gentle nature. He’s mostly very chilled out but has little excited spurts too!
