Pariah Dog Samui Fyra Adoption Story

Fyra

Starting the weekend by kicking it off with some of the best ever type of news…

IT’S AN ADOPTION!! WOOHOO

FYRA IS NOW SAFELY SETTLED IN HER NEW FOREVER HOME IN THE NORTH OF SCOTLAND!

She’s now called Vera and her new family absolutely love her to bits! She’s being very brave and is settling in well. She’s such a sweetheart.

What a phenomenal effort it was from an entire team of wonderful, incredibly kind humans who helped us get her there too! (This is a long post, sorry… but there are a lot of awesome folks to thank!)

Vera had to travel to Bangkok from Samui twice because her first planned flight option fell through.

Then, when we got a 2nd flight, the pet taxi from NL-UK got cancelled! The poor wee tooty had a heck of a journey but all so very very worth it!

(2nd attempt!)

Samui to Bangkok! Vera travelled with me on the ferry and in a minivan (she was SO good) and we stayed in a pet friendly hotel in Bangkok so the last paperwork could be completed (takes 2 days min!)

It’s important to us that wherever possible it’s someone who our dogs know, love and trust who load them into their crate for the plane journey – so we give them the best chance of being calm on the journey and trusting the process.

Bangkok – Amsterdam! Kind Kat who was travelling with her own 2 dogs was Vera’s flight volunteer and made sure she arrived safely in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam – Calais! My pal Ronzo and his furry pal Crawley collected Vera and drove her to Calais. (An old pal who used to work with me in Arnhem who didn’t hesitate to help me out!)

Calais – London! Our friends Danny & Charlotte from the British Online School drove Vera from Calais to London. (Danny & Charlotte used to live in Samui and helped us weekly! How awesome they are still able and willing to support us in this way from the UK!)

London – Caithness! My friend Jenny kept Vera with her a couple of nights in London to recover from the journey so far, then drove her ALL the way up to the north of Scotland (about 660 miles!)

Phew! Long haul… but she made it!

Very grateful thanks must also be given to:

Relo4Paws  for helping with the paperwork and looking after Vera when she was stuck in Bangkok as we frantically tried to find a new flight volunteer 1st round!

Actionfordogs for helping arrange the flight and supporting us as much as possible when our 1st attempt didn’t go as planned

Penny & Phil (who are always a massive support to Pariah) who helped load Vera in the minivan at 5am from Pariah on her 1st attempt!

My amazing Mum & Dad, Rosemary & Keith, who are always promoting Pariah and who found Vera’s new Mum! Plus, when we were struggling to get Vera from Amsterdam to the UK when her pet taxi got cancelled, they offered to drive all the way from Caithness to Amsterdam and back again with her if it came to it!

ALL the fabulous humans who shared our posts and those who got in touch trying to help as flight volunteers – special thanks to Noelle who was even willing to change her flight to accommodate Vera’s travel needs (but the airline wouldn’t let her!)

All the lovely helpers at Pariah who cared for Vera over the years and helped me prepare her for her journey and Robyn from Paws & Flaws who gave us all dog training advice and tips to help make adoptions smoother.

Our friends at Ooni who were Fyra’s (Vera’s) monthly sponsor until she was adopted!

If I’ve missed anyone I’m so sorry! It doesn’t mean we aren’t grateful it’s because my brain is frazzled from being mind-blown by people’s kindness so often.

TEAM VERA! Woop!

Of course, the BIGGEST thanks have to go to Vera’s new family: it takes a very special person to open their heart and home to a wee rescue dog and we cannot thank you enough. You are total legends (and so is Vera so we know you’re a perfect match!)

Yippee for Vera, living her dream life. We miss her and her cheeky wee gorgeous face lots and I miss her not leaping up into my arms to give me kisses, but we simply can’t be happier for her. What a dream.
